Learn how and why you should be getting Google Ads certified and the benefits it has for your personal and business development.

If you’re a marketing professional that wants to take the next step up the ladder in terms of personal development, then getting certified on Google Ads is a step in the right direction.

What is the Google Ads certification?

The Google Ads certification (also known as being Google Ads Skillshop) is for marketing or business professionals that want to strengthen their skillset on the Google advertising platform. The courses are free for you to complete at your own pace, it involves learning the materials and taking an exam that usually lasts between 60 minute and two hours and receiving 80% to pass it.

Obviously Google Ads is one big platform, and there is a lot to learn, so to make it easier for learners, they split each certification into sections including the following:

  1. Google Ads Display
  2. Google Ads Search
  3. Google Ads Measurement
  4. Google Ads Video
  5. Google Shopping Ads
  6. Google Ads Apps

Completing all of the courses/modules won’t give you one big Google certificate, after each course you will be given an individual certificate and badge for that particular module you took. Your certification will expire after a year before you need to relearn the materials and retake the exam.

What are the benefits of being certified on Google ads?

Taking the Google ads certification allows you to understand the advertising platform in-depth to help you maximise budget and results when running ads on the Google network.

  • Increase Google advertising proficiency

Exam Tips

1. Take notes

When you are on the learning stage throughout the modules, make sure you are taking notes and participating in the practice questions, these will greatly benefit you when coming to the exam.

2. Pace yourself

When both learning and taking the exams, make sure you take the time to read everything carefully, you have plenty of time to finely comb through it all.

3. Plan ahead

Make sure you are planning ahead, set a side enough time to take the exam, have plenty of laptop battery, have a quiet space to concentrate in, you know, the usual exam preparation stuff.

As a Google advertising certified professional myself, I can tell you that the course is enriched with heavy learnings which I have taken to develop our own business PPC strategy on Google ads as well as an extra bonus for my own personal development. Overall, the courses took me a week to complete, but 100% worthwhile investing the time to grow your knowledge base in the Google world.
